The origins
Guesthouses’ names and symbolisms
Apollon, the Greek god of healing, archery, music, arts, sunlight, and knowledge, held great significance in ancient mythology. The ancient temple on Despotiko Island was dedicated to him. Despite his divine status, Apollo experienced misfortune in matters of love.
Daphne, is the nymph who rejected Apollo’s advances and fled from him. When Apollo chased her in order to persuade her she transformed herself into a laurel tree. Since then, the laurel tree became Apollo’s cherished symbol, adorning his head as a crown and playing a vital role in his worship.
Ιakinthos or Hyacinthus, is Apollo’s lover, a handsome athletic prince from Sparta. Tragically, Apollo accidentally mortally wounded Ιakinthos while teaching him how to throw the discus. Stricken with grief, Apollo created o flower from his lover’s spilled blood, known as the hyacinth, immortalizing his name.
